【Welcoming Autumn’s Breeze: Early Autumn Sweet Soup】

Did you notice that last week (Aug 7th), the solar term quietly transitioned from the sweltering Major Heat into Early Autumn (Liqiu)? The evening breeze is no longer so humid and warm.

As we enter the very first period of autumn, it is the perfect time to nourish both body and mind with gentle, wholesome ingredients. This coming weekend (Aug 15th), we are preparing a freshly brewed Tremella & Red Date Sweet Soup made with fresh white fungus from Shigang, Taichung, and dried red dates from the Gongguan Farmers’ Association in Miaoli. We still fondly remember sharing this with our guests during the Autumn Equinox last year—both local and international travelers were genuinely delighted by its pure, natural flavor!

For this batch, we’ve carefully chosen top-quality local produce:

Local Specialty from Taichung | Organic Fresh Tremella from Shigang Longgu Mushroom Farm

Sourced directly from an organic farm in Taiwan, this fresh tremella is grown in a climate-controlled environment with strict quality checks from cultivation to harvest, completely free of pesticides. Unlike typical dried tremella, freshly brewed tremella yields a naturally sweet, silky texture that is exceptionally refreshing.

Selected Taiwan Ingredient | Dried Red Dates from Miaoli Gongguan Farmers’ Association

Those familiar with traditional ingredients know that most dried jujubes on the market are imported. However, Taiwan grows its own exceptional red dates, with Miaoli being the largest producing region. With a cultivation history dating back to the late Qing Dynasty, local farming has developed a unique variety tailored to Taiwan’s rich soil and climate. During peak harvest season (mid-July to mid-August), they can even be enjoyed fresh right off the market!

This weekend, come visit Taichung, enjoy the cooling evening breeze, and stop by Loosha Hostel for a warm, comforting bowl of sweet soup as we embrace the crisp autumn days ahead!
